Mad Not Mad, although not the very best Madness album does have a lot of quality packed inside. The album heralded a new era for the band as their talismanic songwriter, Mike Barson, had left to live in Holland. There was a definite change in the band's direction with the tracks being generally much slower than Mike's frequent jaunty hits/5(20).

Total Madness — not to be confused with the Geffen release of the same name — compiles 23 singles, updating the story with “Lovestruck” and “NW5” (at the expense of any selections from Mad Not Mad). The package includes a DVD of videos, in PAL/Region 0.

Mad Not Mad is the sixth album by the British ska band Madness, released in It was their only album not to feature founder member Mike Barson, who had left the group the year before. Only a few weeks after its release, the writers of NME included this LP on their list of the best albums of all time. The band themselves have been less satisfied with the album.
