Bax: Symphony No. 3 / The Happy Forest Arnold Bax. out of 5 stars Lento espressivo. Phantasy Sonata: III. Lento espressivo. Listen Now $ 8. Phantasy Sonata: IV. the sonata for flute and harp. The quintet is an impressive work nonetheless, with a shadowy and somewhat unsettling second movement. The Elegiac Trio for flute /5(12).

The second movement is troubled and dark, and in the slow movement the warm strings of the first suddenly sounds cold and sad. The finale is serious and imposing. Throughout the work, the music is eminently well-crafted and the symphonic momentum never flags, with the music always developing organically and with a steady pulse/5(6).

In all Bax music, it is the slow movement that are outstanding and the lento here is the most involving on this CD is the next in the series. No I do not find this quartet it "angry", and, in my opinion the only "angry" symphony he wrote was his first, written after his Irish friends were killed by the Imperial British in the Irish uprising /5(7).

Arnold Bax has been well served in recent years by Chandos and Naxos. Symphony cycles by Vernon Handley and David Lloyd- Jones have followed this original cycle from Bryden Thomson. Having lived with all three cycles for some years, I feel that Thomson, a much underrated conductor, has produced the most satisfying accounts/5(8).

Nov 22,  · The disc contains an excellent performance of Bax's best-known tone-poem, "Tintagel", and this version is fully competitive with the several other recordings available, although I maintain that the "best" version remains the old Sir Adrian Boult disc on Lyrita Arnold Bax. Orchestral Works! The main work here, of course, is Bax's final symphony/5(16).

No need to provide a detailed note about the Piano Concerto No in C major. Analyses abound. Save to say that the work’s first movement, ‘Allegro maestoso,’ is a vivacious, precursor to the introverted and perfectly balanced second movement, ‘Andante.’ The finale, an ‘Allegro vivace assai,’ is a high-spirited and irrepressible romp.
